Site Search and Site Map Made Easy

Adding a comprehensive site search and site map to a web site has never been easier with the accessible, web standards-based site search and site map plug-in by Grow Collective.

The Grow Collective is a web technology co-operative based in Bristol, UK that specialises in accessible, standards-based web design and applications. Site search and a site map are key additions to any web site wishing to enable all visitors, regardless of disability, to find information fast. GrowSearch does both.

GrowSearch was created with accessibility and ease of use firmly in mind. It indexes and produces site search or map results on the fly, allowing site owners to create new content with the knowledge that visitors will be able to search and find new information immediately.

The search form is compliant with the Web Content Accessiility Guidelines (WCAG) for disabled users which also means it's simple to use for everyone. GrowSearch is also platform and browser independant: No client-side scripting is used at all for the search, everything is achieved using PHP, making it exceptionally portable.

The search results are outputted in a simple XHTML 1.0 Strict list by keyword density and displayed by directory and page title. Any unique HTML tag that appears on the page can be used as the display text in the results allowing designers and developers to choose the description for the pages returned. Favourites might include the page title or h1 tags. Configuration options also include the ability to hide directories, files types and individual files from the results. The search form and results page can be easily styled using CSS.

GrowSearch does a complicated job in a cheap and simple way that both users and designers will love. Meaningful search results, ease of use, simplicity of install and accessible, web standards-based structure make this the perfect plug-in for any web site that needs a search facility and site map.
