With around 100,000 visitors a month, sometimes things get missed in our site stats. After checking them today we decided we owe a few words of thanks to a few referrers who’ve appeared recently, and especially those who have exceptionally good things to say about us and what we love — our work.
The recent SitePoint book and online article, the Principles of Beautiful Web Design by Jason Beaird deserves our thanks for including our site in amongst some of the work we admire the most from other designers like Jon Hicks.
The book looks well researched too. Much more than a eulogy on beautiful design, it’s more a starter kit for designers who would appreciate a set of techniques and formula to frame their thoughts. Perfect for anyone who hasn’t had formal training, and even for many who have and want to translate some of the graphic design theory into a Web context. We get a mention for our balanced design. Pretty humbling stuff when I stop to consider the company we’re in and the work they do — some of which is a magnitute better than I can achieve in my opinion — so, thank you Jason and SitePoint, we appreciate it!
When a developer builds an online dating site in 66.5 hours on his own it’s no surpise lots of people take note. When he credits us as inspiration we take note even more. Mingle is not just another site though, it’s very well executed even without taking into account the amazingly short time it took Boyd to do. In the article about how it was done, Boyd cites Grow as inspiration for the balance in the design. High praise, and again, much appreciated. Ta!
We like trees and all that organicky™, natural stuff. It’s so green! You can eat some of it too. The Designed Tree appeared in our referrers out of the blue so we stopped by for a visit. Our work has featured in a few Web standards / CSS galleries and we’re always happy to see it there but it was the description from The Designed Tree staff that really blew us away. Thanks guys, we do indeed love what we do!
What does chic mean? The author of the article on chic design admits himself that he’s not so sure. Neither am I. We get a mention for our balance again. That’s becoming a theme. I confess though, balance is something I hold dear, whether on or off the Web, in design or just in life in general. It just feels… so… well, balanced. To be mentioned at all is a privilege and amongst some fantastic designs too. Thanks, Patrick, we like seeing you in the referrer log!
So that wraps it up for this post. Don’t think that all of our visitors come for the design work though. A great many come for pages like our lowly SMTP server list and snippets in the code book. That’s great too and thanks to everyone who considers our site a useful enough resource to link to. Like someone once said, ‘links are the recommendations of the Internet’ (I can’t remember who — let me know if you do) and long may it continue!
